55. CLASSICAL GEOMANCY

I. Inner Mode

Method's Worldview The world is understood as a system of hidden correspondences between chance and order. A random act — creating dots on sand, paper, or a screen — reveals the structure of the current situation through symbolic figures. Chaos contains structure: the geomantic shield chart is a symbolic map of the system's state at the moment of the question.

What Is Considered Reality Reality is a dynamic configuration of forces and influences that can be expressed through 16 archetypal figures. These figures describe the structure of a process, not a fixed state.

What Is an Event Within the Method An event is a configuration of probabilities arising at the moment of the query. It is expressed through the structure of the shield chart, the placement of figures, and their interactions.

Method Focus symbolic figures (geomantic figures) and their interactions within the geomantic shield chart. The primary task is to determine the structure of the situation, the dynamics of its development, and the probable outcome.

Role of the Subject The subject performs two functions: formulating the question and initiating the generation of symbols. The subject does not create the answer but initiates the process of its manifestation.

Role of Time Time is fixed at the moment of figure generation. The shield chart reflects the current phase of the situation and the near-term dynamics of its development.

Purpose of the Method Analysis of the current state of affairs, identification of hidden factors, navigation in decision-making, assessment of probable outcomes.

Language and Key Concepts Figure (geomantic figure), dots, Mothers, Daughters, Nieces, Witnesses, Judge, Reconciler, shield chart, houses.

Principles Governing the Transmission of Knowledge [Principles of knowledge transmission in this tradition are being documented together with method masters]

II. Analytical Mode

Origin Traditional. Arab-Islamic tradition (ʿIlm al-Raml — "science of the sand"), later integrated into the European esoteric tradition of the Middle Ages. Latin treatises from the 12th century onward.

Functional Type Diagnosis (F1), interpretation (F2), prognosis (F3), navigation (F4).

Data Type (D) D1 — symbolic generation of figures (dots, a random act). D3 — the subject's meaningful query.

Interpretation Mechanism (C) C1 — Combinatorial (shield structure, binary mathematics). C2 — Processual (development of the situation through levels of the shield). C3 — Archetypal (meanings of the 16 figures).

Temporal Granularity (T) T0 — the moment of figure generation. T1 — the near-term period of the situation's development.

Level of Determinism Probabilistic. The shield chart describes tendencies, not a fixed destiny.

Scale of Applicability From an individual question to the analysis of collective and economic processes.

Limitations Dependence on the accuracy of the generation procedure. Dependence on the interpreter's level. Cultural differences in interpretation (Arab, European, and African schools).

Ethical Risks Shifting responsibility for decisions onto a symbolic system. Dependency on the divinatory procedure.

Degree of Verifiability Low in the strict empirical sense. The method belongs to the category of symbolic systems for interpreting reality.

III. Comparative Mode

Intersections by Data Type D1 is also used in I Ching (#6), runic systems (#21), and numerological practices. The distinction of geomancy is the generation of a structure from multiple symbols forming a map (the shield chart), rather than a single symbol.

Intersections by Mechanism C1 (combinatorial structure) intersects with numerological and astrological systems. C3 (figure archetypes) intersects with Tarot (#10), Runes (#21), and I Ching (#6). The C1+C2 combination is unique: the mathematical XOR operation generates new figures from existing ones, creating processual dynamics.

Differences in Ontology Geomancy describes a map of the situation, not a map of the personality. The focus is on the question, not on the person. Closer to Horary Astrology (#56) than to natal systems.

Differences in Level of Determinism A probabilistic system. The shield chart shows the direction of the process, not an inevitable outcome. Less deterministic than natal astrology; more structured than directed attention practices (#12).

Areas of Partial Compatibility Astrology (#1) — through the planetary correspondences of the figures. I Ching (#6) — through a symbolic model of situational dynamics. Directed attention practices (#12) — in the domain of in-the-moment decision-making.
