DREAMSPELL / LAW OF TIME (Argüelles' Lunar-Solar Matrix)
48. DREAMSPELL / LAW OF TIME (Argüelles' Lunar-Solar Matrix)
I. Inner Mode
Method's Worldview Time is not a linear flow but a living matrix organised according to the "Law of Time" (T(E)=Art: Time × Energy = Art). The universe is governed by 13:20 — the pulse of the Galaxy, reflected in the 260-day matrix cycle (the Tzolkin). Every person is born into a specific "Kin" (a cell of the 13×20 matrix), which determines their Solar Seal and Tone — the archetype and rhythm of incarnation. In contrast to "mechanical" Gregorian time (12:60), true time is synchronic and cyclical.
What Is Considered Reality Reality is synchronic: coincidences of dates, numbers, and events are not accidental but are signals from the living matrix of time. The 20 Solar Seals and 13 Tones are the basic archetypal principles governing the quality of every moment. The Galactic Being (every person) carries a specific "Kin code" that determines their role in the collective awakening.
What Is an Event Within the Method An event is a synchronic encounter with a specific Kin or Wavespell (a series of 13 days). Significant life events are read through the coincidence of one's personal Kin with the Kins of pivotal days and cycles (260 days, the 52-year "Solar Round," the 26,000-year "Galactic Year"). Synchronicity is the defining characteristic of a significant event.
Role of the Subject Every person is a "Galactic Being" carrying a specific Kin code. Their task is to become aware of their code, to live in synchrony with the matrix of the Law of Time, and to become a co-creator of the "Galactic Culture" that is to succeed the 12:60 civilisation. The subject bears responsibility for their own "awakening."
Role of Time Time is a multi-layered cycle: the 260-day Tzolkin (13×20 matrix); the 365-day Solar Year (13 moons of 28 days + 1 "Day Out of Time"); the 52-year Solar Round (Galactic Round); the 26,000-year Great Cycle. Each level creates resonant links between events.
Purpose of the Method To determine the personal Kin code (Solar Seal, Tone, Wavespell), to become aware of synchronic connections between dates and events, to practise the "Law of Time" through the daily 13-moon calendar, and to participate in the collective "Galactic Awakening."
Language and Key Concepts Kin, Solar Seal, Tone of Creation, Wavespell (13 Kins), Tzolkin (13×20 matrix), Law of Time T(E)=Art, 13:20 (galactic pulse), 12:60 (artificial mechanical time), Galactic Being, Day Out of Time, Synchronomics, Dreamspell, José Argüelles (Valum Votan), Lunar-Solar Matrix.
Principles Governing the Transmission of Knowledge [Principles of knowledge transmission in this tradition are being documented together with method masters]
II. Analytical Mode
Origin Authorial (José Argüelles / Valum Votan, USA, 1987–2011); based on a reinterpretation of the Mayan Tzolkin, though it is not a traditional form of that system. Key publications: "The Mayan Factor" (1987), "Dreamspell" (1990, game-system), "Earth Ascending." After Argüelles' death (2011) the system continues to be developed by followers. Traditional Mayan communities and Mayanist scholars do not recognise Dreamspell as an authentic system.
Functional Type F1 — diagnosis of the personal Kin code; F2 — interpretation of the archetypes of the Solar Seals and Tones; F4 — navigation through the daily 13-moon calendar and synchronicity.
Data Type D1 — symbolic external data: date of birth as the starting point for calculating the Kin according to the 13×20 matrix.
Interpretation Mechanism C2 — cyclical (dominant): the 260-day Tzolkin and the 13-moon year as the primary rhythmic structures; C3 — archetypal: the 20 Solar Seals and 13 Tones as symbolic principles; C4 — interactive (limited): synchronicity as a method of reading events through the matrix.
Temporal Granularity T0 (birth Kin as the base moment); T2 (260-day Tzolkin cycle; 13-moon year); T3 (52-year Solar Round; life trajectory through Wavespells); T4 (the 26,000-year Great Cycle in Argüelles' conception).
Level of Determinism Moderate, with an emphasis on choice and synchrony. The Kin code establishes the archetype, but its realisation depends on the subject's "awakening." Determinism is softened by the concept of Wavespells: the current moment is always open.
Scale of Applicability Individual (personal Kin) and collective (the global 13-moon calendar as "world synchronisation").
Limitations Historical illegitimacy: this is not an authentic Mayan system — Argüelles substantially reworked the Tzolkin. High internal complexity of the mythology. Variability in calculations (different tools yield different Kins due to disputes about the starting point). Strong quasi-religious charge.
Ethical Risks Formation of dependency on "synchronicities" and "the matrix" as a mode of decision-making. Quasi-religious thinking. Eschatological concepts (2012, "End of 12:60 time"). Cultural appropriation of Mayan culture without the consent of the tradition's bearers.
Degree of Verifiability Low. The system is self-enclosed: synchronicity cannot be falsified. The historical link to the Mayan tradition has been refuted by Mayanist scholars.
III. Comparative Mode
Intersections by Data Type D1 is shared with Mayan Astrology (#22) — both use images from the Tzolkin. The date of birth as a common parameter links to numerological systems (#5, #46, #47).
Intersections by Mechanism C2 (cyclicality) relates to Mayan Astrology (#22) and Western Astrology (#1); C3 (the archetypal structure of the 20 Seals and 13 Tones) is structurally similar to the archetypal systems of Tarot (#20) and Jungian Archetypes (#11); C4 (synchronicity as a method) — with Tarot (#20) and the I Ching (#6).
Differences in Ontology Unlike traditional Mayan Astrology (#22), Dreamspell is not a reconstruction of a historical tradition — it is an authorial neo-esoteric system that employs Mayan imagery within a Western new-esoteric context. The unique concept of the "Law of Time" and of two temporal registers (13:20 vs. 12:60) has no parallel in the Atlas.
Differences in Level of Determinism Moderate: the Kin code creates an archetypal profile, but the synchronic method is perpetually open to interpretation. Closer to navigational systems (F4) than to strictly prognostic ones.
Areas of Partial Compatibility With Mayan Astrology (#22) — shared Tzolkin imagery with strict delineation of historical and Argüellesian systems. With Tarot (#20) — both work with archetypes in a specific moment of time.
