Intertype Relations

Intertype Relations (IR) form a system of 14 types of interactions between TIMs in Socionics (#8), predicting the character of any pair contact.

The 14 Types of Relations

• Identity — identical TIMs
• Duality — full complementarity (the optimal pair)
• Activation — stimulating interaction
• Mirror — mutual correction
• Business — cooperation without depth
• Mirage — attraction with disappointment
• Semi-duality — incomplete complementarity
• Conflict — antagonism on all functions
• Supervision (2 variants) — control of one over the other
• Request (2 variants) — asymmetric influence
• Quasi-identity — outer similarity, inner difference
• Super-ego — *mutual pressure on vulnerable points
• Extinguishment — mutual neutralization

The Uniqueness of Socionics

What MBTI lacks. IR is a unique feature of Socionics, distinguishing it from MBTI (#4): MBTI has no formalized theory of pair interactions. Socionics goes deeper, describing the very geometry of compatibility.
