Intertype Relations

Intertype relations · Intertype relations (Latin)

RU: Интертипные отношения

Intertype Relations (IR) form a system of 14 types of interactions between TIMs in Socionics (#8), predicting the character of any pair contact.

Author. Aušra Augustinavičiūtė (Lithuanian Aušra Augustinavičiūtė, 1970s).

The 14 Types of Relations

  • Identityidentical TIMs
  • Dualityfull complementarity (the optimal pair)
  • Activationstimulating interaction
  • Mirrormutual correction
  • Businesscooperation without depth
  • Mirageattraction with disappointment
  • Semi-dualityincomplete complementarity
  • Conflictantagonism on all functions
  • Supervision (2 variants) — control of one over the other
  • Request (2 variants) — asymmetric influence
  • Quasi-identityouter similarity, inner difference
  • Super-ego — *mutual pressure on vulnerable points
  • Extinguishmentmutual neutralization

The Uniqueness of Socionics

What MBTI lacks. IR is a unique feature of Socionics, distinguishing it from MBTI (#4): MBTI has no formalized theory of pair interactions. Socionics goes deeper, describing the very geometry of compatibility.
