Progressions
Progressions · Progressions (Latin)
RU: Прогрессии
Progressions (Latin progressio — "advancement"; Secondary Progressions; German Sekundärdirektionen) is a symbolic predictive technique of Western astrology (#1), based on the principle "one day = one year".
The Mechanism
"A day for a year". The positions of the planets on the Nth day after birth describe the events and inner changes of the Nth year of life. Planetary positions on the 30th day after birth form the "progressed chart" of the 30th year of life.
Key Progressed Events
- The progressed Moon travels the entire zodiac in ~27 years (emotional cycles)
- The progressed Sun changes sign about every 30 years (shift in life style)
- Progressed aspects — exact to 1° — indicate critical years
Difference from Transits
Outer vs inner. Transits (T036) are the real movement of planets in the current sky (outer events); progressions are the symbolic "unfolding" of the natal chart (inner ripening).
Both layers at once. The astrologer uses both layers at once: transits tell about events, progressions about readiness to meet them.
The Ba Zi Analog
Da Yun. The functional analog is Da Yun (T011) in Ba Zi (#10), but the mechanism is different: Da Yun is decade pillars, Progressions are "day for a year". Different tools for the same task.
Translation note
Retain as 'progressions'. Provide context in parentheses when first mentioned.
