Bhagyanka

Bhagyanka (Sanskrit भाग्यांक, bhāgyāṅka — "the number of destiny", from bhāgya — "fate, luck" + aṅka — "digit"), also called the Karma Number (कर्मांक), is the number of the long-term life mission in Sankhya Shastra (#30).

Calculation. Computed by sequentially reducing the full date of birth (day + month + year) to a single digit (1–9).

The Three-Level Numerical System of Sankhya Shastra

Unlike Western numerology, the Vedic school identifies three key numbers, each responsible for its own level:

• Jiva Number (Mulanka, मूलांक) = DAY → who you are to yourself
• Dharma Number (धर्मांक) = DAY + MONTH → the life purpose
• Karma Number (Bhagyanka, भाग्यांक) = DAY + MONTH + YEAR → long-term destiny

What Bhagyanka Reveals

The karmic lessons of incarnation. Bhagyanka points to what a person learns throughout an entire lifetime — the main trials, key encounters, the final accomplishments. It is ruled by the Graha corresponding to the resulting number.

Comparison with Other Systems

• Pythagorean school (#5): Bhagyanka structurally coincides with the "Life Path Number" — the same arithmetic, but a different interpretation.
• Chaldean numerology (#29): the analogous number carries an additional layer of meaning through Compound Numbers.

Different interpretations. Pythagoras relies on universal numerical principles, Sankhya Shastra on Vedic planetary archetypes. The same digit in these systems sounds fundamentally different.
